In an effort to present youth with engaging, balanced literacy instruction, we have adopted an approach that includes both reading as well as writing instruction.  Our targets are 3rd graders in a variety of settings within the elementary classroom. Supported by literacy proponents and authors like Lucy Calkins, Irene Fountas, Sarah Walker, and Gay Su Pinnell, whose publications and teaching have become the standard for literacy instruction across America.


On a typical day, periods of time are set aside strictly for the purpose of reading and writing instruction. In the Balanced Literacy Model, Reading Instruction includes Shared Reading, Read Alouds, and Guided Reading which is how the name 3D Reading was adopted.
